Progression verse Tradition

We as human beings are predetermined to progress until we completely destroy ourselves but since that is still what we hope will be a few centuries away, lets deal with the issue at hand. How does one maintain something of what you thought was 'who you are' whilst at the same time maintaining a good, healthy progressive human nature. If you are too traditional in terms what your medical or technological needs are then you will promptly be left behind. I have heard of people who refuse to take medication. They still go to the doctor but don't take the medicine prescribed to them. They believe that their bodies have the natural capacity to deal with germs and diseases and this is 100% correct. Our bodies do actually have the ability to 'fight for your life' but this is where things start to get interesting. Due to our technological development and thereafter our ecological digression, germs are no longer germs! They are super germs that cause ridiculously strong viral infections that keep you floored for 2 weeks. So even if your body did have the ability originally, it no longer has the skills to fight off the Super Germ! But then you could also argue that if we are really evolutionary creatures, then your body will eventually catch up and evolve into super human capacity and hence your traditional theory is completely legitimate! The only downside to this theory is that you kinda have to hope that you will actually survive against swine flu and Cancer until then and that eventually progression will overcome tradition because its impossible to maintain any stability in the technological era.
